Do you like the idea of having multiple steps in your skincare routine?
Well, I personally don’t. So, that’s why I always look for easy-peasy skincare routines with 3 to 5 steps, so that I can keep up with them. If a routine has fewer than five steps, then it’s even better.
But, certainly, as you level up in your skincare game, it can be a bit difficult to keep the least possible steps.
See, I am not at all trying to say that you need to have multiple steps in your skincare routine for it to be effective and give you healthy skin.
But as you grow in your skincare journey and as you start to target multiple skin concerns, it’s obvious that your skincare steps will increase.
Or if you’re someone who thinks having even three steps in your skincare routine is a pain in the ass, then don’t worry.
In this small article, I am going to share five simple and effective ways to level up your skincare routine to make the most of it and also spend way less time smearing those skincare products on your face.
I’ll tell you some non-negotiable steps to have and things to follow in your skincare routine and purge anything extra. I’ve personally tried all these tips and tricks, so you don’t have to worry about their efficacy.
So, let’s dive in!
5 Simple and Effective Tips to Take Your Skincare Game to the Next Level

1. Double-Cleaning Delight
Disclaimer: This might add a small extra step to your skincare routine, but you won’t regret it.
Have you experienced texture on your face?
Or did you notice any new breakouts or acne popping up on your face despite having a good skincare routine?
The reason you’re struggling with the above issue is that you aren’t cleaning your face well before doing the rest of your skincare routine.
There’s a very likely chance that with just one cleanse, you aren’t able to completely remove your makeup and sunscreen.
And if you’re using the wrong cleanser that’s not meant for your skin type, then don’t even get me started.
You have texture on your skin, and the reason why you aren’t able to clean your face well can also be because you’re using the wrong cleanser.
Now I won’t discuss how to choose the right cleanser that'll actually clean your skin. You can read here to find the right cleanser for yourself if you actually want to make your skin better.
So, now back to the main point!
Sometimes, with one cleanse, your makeup and sunscreen don’t come off effectively. And when you do your skincare routine on top of that, some particles of makeup and sunscreen stay trapped under your skin, which can cause acne and breakouts.
You can also get textured skin because of this issue.
So, consider incorporating a good oil-based cleanser (good for dry skin) or some other cleanser based on your skin type into your skincare routine to get squeaky-clean skin to do the rest of your skincare routine.

2. Hydration Station
Every skin needs hydration!
If you notice dull and dry skin on your face, then lack of hydration is the reason why.
So, you must have some product in your skincare routine to add hydration to your skin to get that dewy, plump-looking, and healthy skin.
To include hydrating products in your skincare routine, you can add ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin.
These ingredients work for all skin types and can help replenish moisture levels and lock in hydration into your skin.
You can use them as serums or incorporate them into some moisturizers in your routine.
3. Sunshine Protection
As cliche as it sounds, it’s just as important for your skin’s health.
You must have heard thousands or even millions of times every skincare enthusiast or even me preach about how important sunscreen is for your skin.
We all do so because it is that important.
I’d also say that if you don’t like having even 2-3 steps in your skincare routine, then ditch everything else and just use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen daily. That’s all!
The sun’s rays can damage your skin’s collagen, which can lead to premature aging, or the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays can also cause skin cancer.
If not for having good and healthy skin but at least for protecting your skin from cancer — you should wear sunscreen daily!
So, opt for a lightweight formula with at least SPF 30 in your daily skincare routine.
And use your sunscreen religiously, whether you stay indoors or it’s raining outside. And don’t forget to reapply it every 2 hours.
If you’re lazy about reapplying sunscreen, look for stick or spray sunscreens.

4. Power of Patience (and Consistency)
Every good thing takes time. Be it perfect (everyone has their own perfect) and healthy skin!
When you see someone with healthy, plump, and juicy skin, most likely they have been playing this skincare game for many years now.
And to get healthy skin, a good skincare routine isn’t the only thing.
Yes, I said what I said.
You need to have a holistic skincare routine to get the healthy skin that you desire.
But without confusing you and diving deeeeep into it, here are a few things to take care of for healthy skin:
The first is to be consistent with your skincare routine.
Have a good and healthy diet to support your skin’s needs.
Ditch sugar and processed foods, as they can also cause acne and breakouts.
Drink lots of water. If you can add antioxidants to your water, then even better, or eat lots of fruits.
Wear your sunscreen daily.
Exfoliate regularly, and only use chemical exfoliators like salicylic or glycolic acid.
Last but not least, have patience, and don’t critique yourself and your skin for every small blemish or breakout, as it’s normal. Nobody has picture-perfect skin like social media influencers seem to have because they use a million filters on their faces. Don’t compare your skin to that of those fake people!
And remember, good things come to those who wait (and good skin too!) while taking action consistently (doing skincare daily) and improving with time (adapting to your skin’s changing needs).

5. Beauty Sleep Booster
Your beauty sleep is a non-negotiable for having healthy skin.
Beauty sleep isn’t just a saying, but it’s essential to have healthy skin that glows from within.
So, aim for those 8 hours daily to give your skin some rest and time to repair itself.
Make sure to remove your makeup and sunscreen well before going to bed, and let your skin naturally repair and restore itself.
Don’t stuff your face with a million products before going to bed. Keep it simple!
If not anything, at least use a hydrating or nourishing sleep mask to assist your skin’s natural repairing process and make it more effective.
Trust me when I say this: these overnight masks would make your skin soft and supple, and you’d wake up with that enviable glow.
They work wonders to give your skin that extra oomph while you catch those Z’s, leaving you with baby-soft skin in the morning.
Final Thoughts
Making an effective skincare routine is hard, and keeping up with it is harder.
But simplifying your skincare routine and having only the non-negotiable steps can make it way easier for you to keep up with it.
So, follow these tips and tricks to add or maybe remove some steps from your routine that aren’t adding any real value to your skin’s health.
Lastly, don’t critique or compare your skin to people online. They are all fake, and having small blemishes and breakouts is completely okay!
Remember, skincare is all about self-care, so enjoy the process and treat your skin with the love and attention it deserves.

Thank you! I despise multi level skin care. I end up not following most of the steps, lol.
